We’re officially a nonprofit organization! 🎉
We’re beyond excited to share that the IRS has approved our application to operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization! What does this mean? For starters, we can accept tax-deductible donations from people who support our mission of making UC Berkeley safe for students.
Our Vision
Our vision for SafeBears was always to create an organization that would last longer than the four years it takes for a student to graduate from college. Why? Because we wanted a way for each new generation of Cal parents to quickly get up-to-speed on the important issues concerning crime and safety at UC Berkeley, and to hold the administration accountable for the commitments it made to parents of students who have already graduated.
In other words, we wanted to break the cycle of each new generation of Cal parents having to start from zero each year.
What does this mean for you?
As a registered nonprofit organization, SafeBears will have even more resources to help us achieve our mission. We are accepting tax-deductible donations, something many parents have asked about. It also means we will be thinking bigger about all the ways we can increase our impact.
So while there are no dramatic changes for now, watch this space, because we are only getting started! 💛
